The first in the list is the 27 “PD2700Q from BenQ. The DesignVue series monitor features an IPS panel, outputs sharp 2K (1440p) resolution and 350 NITs of brightness which is still viewable even on a heavily lit room.

It has a brilliant colour profile that includes 10-bit depth with 100% sRGB gamut coverage rendering sheer pictures with off-course lossless true to life colours. The display can reproduce over 1 Billion colours with an accuracy of over Delta E ≤ 3.

Though the visual performance may not be as good as of a retina display which you are used to, it still outputs above-average performance and is excellent considering the price point.

How to connect BenQ PD2700Q to Macbook Pro

The monitor has HDMI and DP ports and comes with an HDMI cable. You may require a Type-C to DP or Type-C to HDMI port to connect to your Macbook Pro.

2. Dell – U2415 – best 24-inch monitor for Macbook Pro

Dell Highlights

  • 24″ IPS display
  • 1200p resolution with 16:10 ratio
  • 300 NITs of brightness
  • 76Hz refresh rate & 6ms response
  • 99% sRGB coverage
  • HDMI, USB, DP, Audio ports, No Type-C
  • Ergonomic stand

The next Macbook Pro compatible monitor is Dell U2415 – one of the slickest displays to make up in this list. With three sides bezel-less construction and a cool stand that’s also sturdy and ergonomic gives the monitor quite a premium appeal.

Sure, it has a 24 inch IPS grade display with 16:10 wider than normal size and a 1920 X 1200p resolution to properly suffice the extended screen size. It has a decent 178° H/V viewing angles, a nice 99% sRGB colour definition and 300 NITs of brightness which should be enough for a fairly bright room. The Dell monitor has the 76Hz refresh and 6ms of response time as per the official specs.

Additionally, the U2415 comes with a multitude of connectivity options, including 2-HDMI, 2-DisplayPort, 6-USB, and an Audio out port. It, however, lacks thunderbolt or Type-C port.

How to connect Dell U2415 to Macbook Pro

Since it lacks Type-C or Thunderbolt port, you will have to make use of a converter. Either a good Type-C to HDMI or Type-C to DP cable as per your MacBook model would do.

3. LG 27UK850-W – best USB-C 4K monitor for Macbook Pro

LG Highlights

  • 27″ IPS display
  • HDR 10 with SDR to HDR Upscale
  • sRGB 99% (Typ.)
  • 5ms response, 60Hz frame rate
  • Hardware Calibration Ready
  • HDMI, USB Type-C™
  • AMD FreeSync™

Multimedia editors and Mac users will fall in love with this machine. The LG 27UK850 is a robust 4K monitor from the premium segment that almost matches retina brilliance. It’s a Macbook Pro focused monitor that features USB Type-C port for fast connectivity or as a charging station.

Apart from rendering crispier resolution, the 27″ IPS monitor boasts HDR10 that makes the outputs more appealing with a smart dark & bright spot management algorithm. It’s a professional-grade colour precise monitor ideal companion for editing and graphics designers

Looks vice the monitor is quite good. With its white back, 3-side thin frame and firm stand give the monitor a minimalist personality. And off-course the stand is ergonomic, and you can just swivel, tilt and make adjustments as you like.

Further, it is covered by a 3-years warranty, and you have little to worry about if anything.

How to connect LG 27UK850-W to Macbook Pro

It’s the easiest. Just use the included USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the Macbook to the monitor. And that’s it, enjoy!

4. HP 22fw – The budget external monitor for Macbook Pro

[amazon box=”B07L4JDX4F” image_size=”large” title=”HP Highlights”]

  • Beautiful slimmest profile
  • 21.5-inch FHD display & anti-glare coating
  • IPS panel & 16.9M colours support
  • Decent viewing angles
  • 5ms response & 75Hz Max shutter rate
  • HDMI, VGA ports, NO thunderbolt/ Type-C
  • 3Y of warranty
  • Poor tilting

[/amazon]

Priced just above Rs.10,000, the HP 22fw is perhaps the cheapest Macbook Pro compatible monitor that I could find in India. First of all, it doesn’t have a type-c or thunderbolt port, and I think you shouldn’t even expect it at this price tag. You will require to buy a separate converter for the purpose.

Rest assured, it has an impressive outer look with a white aluminium-like finish, a rather sturdy metal stand and not to mention thin-bezel approach.

As for the display configurations, it comes with a 21.5 inch Full HD IPS class display with anti-glare coating atop that although nowhere near a retina display but stills gives a nice uninterrupted viewing experience at all angles. The colour profile is average and supports just over 16M of them. Plus the response time, 5ms, is a little of letting go and won’t be much useful for online multiplayer. The max frequency is decent, though. Sync with relevant AMD cards and get a boost of upto 75Hz for smoother video O/P.

I would advise HP 22FW if you don’t want to spend much on an external monitor right now and don’t need a dedicated monitor. The HP 22FW is a nice monitor for Macbook Pro for regular non-sophisticated purposes.

How to connect HP 22FW to your Macbook Pro

Since this monitor doesn’t have a Type-C or Thunderbolt port, you will have to make use of a converter. You will need a USB Type-C to HDMI converter cable to connect to your Macbook.

5. LG 27UL500 – Best 27 inch 4K monitor For Macbook at budget

[amazon box=”B07PGL2WVS” image_size=”large” title=”LG Highlights”]

  • 27″ IPS display
  • 4K resolution + HDR10
  • 3-side thin bezel build
  • 99% sRGB & 1.08B colors
  • HDMI, Display & Audio Ports, NO Type-C
  • HDCP 2.2 for online 4K streaming
  • Radeon Freesync
  • 5ms & 60Hz rate

[/amazon]

It’s the 2nd instalment from LG to make it onto this list. The LG 27UL500 delivers the impeccable performance that justifies the asking price. Although may not be as good as retina resolution, the 27 inches 4K contender renders quite impressive visuals. It’s an IPS powered display meaning you are gonna enjoy a decent, low-saturation, and brighter colour reproduction. The colour profile is 99% sRGB with 1.08B colours. Plus it’s HDR-enabled, so it’s fun to watch view content with lots of low light scenes.

If you are a user with a bit designing and a bit of gaming approach, then it’s an ideal contender for you. The LG monitor has plenty of ports for connectivity which includes Dual HDMI and a Display Port. But it lacks the Type-C Port by default so you will require to buy the converter to connect to your Macbook Air/Pro. Last but not least. There is a gaming-focused variant, 27GN750, with upto 240Hz refresh and 1ms lightning response time. So if you are a gaming enthusiast, then I think you will love it.

How to connect LG 27UL500 to your Macbook Pro or Air

Depending on your Macbook, if its Air then you may need a Mini DP to DP or HDMI converter. And if its Pro model then you will need a Type-C to HDMI or DP converter. For more info, visit the official site.

Found monitor for your MacBook Pro/Air?

Finding the best monitor for Macbook Pro/ Air is not an easy task. You will want to make sure the monitor resembles the standard and elegance of a retina display that you are used to with Mac. And also that it doesn’t render blurry text, an issue with most non-Mac monitors. The Type-C or Thunderbolt port is hard to find in the mid-range segment. You will have to make use of converters/adaptors. So if you want a monitor with a native Type-C port and excellent visual, then go with LG 27UK850-W. Or a BenQ PD2700Q, which will require a Type-C adaptor but is a decent companion for the retina standard.
